In Jumping Equitation, horse and rider combinations are judged on position, control of line and rhythm, and harmony between horse and rider.
There are two or sometimes three phases that follow each other immediately. Phase 1 consists of a freestyle workout with compulsory movements which include flatwork, poles and some gymnastic jumping depending on the difficulty level of the class. Riders plan their workout and put the compulsory movements together in a way that they feel showcases their skills and partnership. Phase 2 is a showjumping course; the number of jumps, heights and degree of difficulty increase with the class level. Phase 3 is only included at some of the higher levels and consists of competitors swapping horses and performing a short course on the strange horse.
Each rider will ride two rounds of their chosen test, the first round is a practice round where the judge will give feedback and advice. The second round will be the one chosen for scoring for the competition.
Please note this is a TRAINING competition, your coaches will be there to assist you in your warm-up, to make sure that you understand the rules of the competition and are confident to perform at the level you have entered. Riders should choose from the following classes:
Class 1) poles - 40 cm
Class 2) 50 - 60 cm
Class 3) 60 - 70 cm
Class 4) 70 - 80 cm
